The Drakensberg mountains (the dragon mountain) or uKhahlamba (the Barrier of Spears) is a 200km+ mountain range. The largest portion of the Drakensberg area falls in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.
The Zulu people named it "Ukhahlamba" and the Dutch Voortrekkers named it "Drakensberg". The Drakensberg Mountains, with its sheer cliffs and snow capped mountains in winter, tower over ravines and lush bush.
The Drakensberg plays host to a large variety of activities. For the adrenaline junkies there are activities such as: abseiling, sheer rock and ice climbing aswel as white water rafting. A Helicopter ride over the Drakensberg is the ideal way to see the breathtaking landscape from a different perspective.

ANIMALS & BIRDS
These mountains are the domain of eagles who lord over the skies in particular
black eagles and bearded vultures. Roaming the hills and valleys are herds
of eland and smaller buck.
SEASONS
Rainy Season: It rains in summer in sudden bursts and thunderstorms from
October to April. Everything is green and lush and flowers cover the meadows.
Dry Season: The dry season lasts over the winter months from May to September
and in mid-winter (June to August) it gets extremely cold at night with sharp
frosts and snow falls.
