This package gives you the chance to explore some of those battlefields whilst staying in a lodge that has magnificent views of the famous Isandlwana battlefields. From there you get to enjoy Big 5 game viewing in the Nambiti Game Reserve, a reserve which is also surrounded by battlefield history and monuments.
Complete your holiday with 2 nights at the Cathedral peak resort where you can relax and enjoy the crisp mountain air or take part in one of the many activities available at the resort.

This package would suit those interested in the history of the KZN region as well as game viewing and site seeing. The trip can be done in either direction and can be amended to suit your tastes or preferences.
If you have a favourite hotel or lodge you would like us to substitute, let us know and we can send you a quote with that.

As with all our packages, we seek out the best prices when clients enquire so if a new special has been released that we can take advantage of, we will do that, to give you the best possible price.

Please see below a sample itinerary for the 5 days. The route can be done in either direction and this is just an idea of what you can expect from this package

Day 01 to 03

Arrive at Isandlwana Lodge anytime from 1pm.
The Lodge is carved into the iNyoni rock formation on top of which the Zulu commander stood during the battle of Isandlwana on 22 January 1879. Enjoy unparalleled views from the crisp early light of a sparkling Zulu dawn to the splendour of the African sunset.
Your 6 night KZN holiday has begun!

Over the next 3 days you will experience tours of the Zulu Battlefield sites of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift and other Anglo-Zulu/Anglo-Boer war sites that are conducted by resident historians. Tours to other Anglo Zulu and Anglo Boer battle sites are also possible by prior arrangement.
You are also encouraged to visit the Zulu village where guests can experience the life and customs of the Zulu people in an authentic setting.

The lodge truly captures all the drama and texture of the area's rich history, whilst offering total relaxation, comfort and luxury for its guests.

Bother activities include walking trails, horse riding, birding tours, photographic safaris, or for those after peace and tranquillity, a picnic at a nearby waterfall, reading on the outdoor verandah or in the library or lying at the pool are all easily for the taking.

Days 03 to 05

Arrive at Nambiti game reserve by 13h00.
After registering at the main gate, you drive a short distance through the reserve to the parking area where a game ranger from Nambiti Hills game Experience will be to meet you and transfer you to the Lodge.
Your Safari has already begun!

In addition to the Big Five, there are more than 30 other species of game, including cheetah, hyena, giraffe, hippo, kudu, eland, zebra, hartebeest and gemsbok, as well as more than 280 bird species, including the secretary bird, blue cranes, several types of vulture, martial eagles and water birds – the Goliath heron, sandpiper, red-billed teal and giant kingfisher.

You will have a couple of hours to freshen up before your late afternoon game drive.

The game drive lasts around 2.5 hours and you will get to enjoy a Sundowner Experience where the ranger will find a suitably beautiful spot to watch the sun go down.
Your final 30 or 60 minutes of the drive will be in the dark where you can try and spot some of the more nocturnal animals.

Dinner is served at around 19h30 and will be in one of the spectacular settings available, around the fire, by candle light in the dining room or on the lodge deck.

There are eight luxury suites with warm inviting interiors decorated with natural tones and plush beds. You will have your own private terrace where you can enjoy a drink from as you enjoy the view over the reserve. A completely private setting for a large stone bath offers views of the natural landscape surrounding your spacious, open-plan suite.
Private veranda, King or Twin beds with mosquito net, Indoor shower, Extra-large stone bath, Air conditioner (conversion to heater), Fully stocked mini-bar ( for your account).

You will be woken just before dawn by your game ranger for your morning game drive. Hot coffee's and Tea's are available along with biscuits and rusks to help you start the day.
In winter the nights and early mornings are chilly but the days are usually gloriously sunny and warm. The sites of ochre and biscuit-coloured winter bush and the easier game viewing more than make up for the cold you may feel when waking up for pre-dawn game drives.
Blankets are provided for the chilly mornings.

Game drives normally last from 2 to 3 hours depending on conditions and sightings.
At a convenient ( and safe ) time during the game drive, your ranger will find a spot for you to pull over and enjoy a light snack and some hot chocolate, coffee or tea. It is a good time to ask questions and discuss the morning sightings

A hot or continental breakfast will be waiting for you on your return. You have the morning at your leisure. Spend it next to the pool, catch up on sleep or perhaps enjoy a massage in the privacy of your own room ( extra cost, book on arrival )

Days 05 to 07

Depart Nambiti Hills at 11 am for Cathedral Peak.

You have a little time before your drive "up the hill". Nambiti is in the heart of the KZN battlefields and you will be travelling through Ladysmith, one of the most famous of the battlefield towns.
The town was catapulted into world fame when the Boer Forces laid siege to it on 2nd November 1899. For the next 118 days the British forces were held in Ladysmith which made headlines worldwide, until their relief on 28th February 1900. There are various monuments and grave sites around Nambiti of historical relevance that you can visit. The drive to Cathedral Peak is an easy 90 minute drive which gives you plenty of time to stop and visit attractions along the way. You can plan a route to visit some sites along the way, or head straight to the hotel enjoy one of it's many activities. You may of course also have had enough of activities and tour guides and be in need of some quality time next to the pool with a cool drink.

Cathedral Peak Hotel is renowned for its surrounding natural beauty. Dinner and breakfast are included in the rates. The elegant dining room offers an extensive buffet, and superb cuisine.
The late-night Harry's Bar provides a warm informal atmosphere to enjoy a drink or catch up on any major sporting events on the big screen. The inviting heated and cold pools with large lawns provide the opportunity for relaxing and sun bathing.
